Beginnings.

So, where did this all begin?  In Afghanistan.  Over the course of a nearly fifteen-month tour, I read Tim Ferriss's The 4-Hour Workweek and was intrigued by it.  Of course, the ironic thing is that I was working a veritable 168-hour work week, as we were in the middle of continuous combat operations.  This experience, coupled with an entire career of very long hours and months out "in the field" training, certainly made the idea of finding success in four hours a week appealing!

Since that time, I've consumed a steady diet of blog postings and books about the so-called new economy.  I'm a believer.  Though I harbor no illusions of success with only four hours a week-- at least for now-- I've decided to take the plunge.

A couple of other relevant facts:  (1) I'm still gainfully employed with a steady income; and (2) When I "retire" from the military (or "transition" as the career counselors inform me I'm to say), I should enjoy a passive income stream in the form of my retirement paycheck.  That is, if the government remains solvent and preserves the military retirement system!

Because of these facts, my family and I shouldn't starve-- we can afford to take some risks!  Let's get to it!
